CONSEQUENCES FOR BREAKING RULES
1st time- The student’s name will be written on the board as a warning. If the student heeds the warning, no other consequences will follow.
2nd time- A check will be placed by the student’s name, and the student will be placed in isolation at the back of the music room with his/her privilege of participating for that class period taken away. A writing assignment may be given at the teacher’s discretion. (The assignment will be on the subject of music to increase musical knowledge since the student has chosen not to learn music with the class.) Also, a strike notice will be sent to the homeroom teacher.
3rd time- A second check will be placed by the student’s name on the board. The student will write a letter to his/her parent stating what rule or rules were broken, the consequences, and how to correct his/her behavior. The letter must be signed by the parent and returned to me the morning of the following school day. At the music teacher’s discretion and depending on the seriousness of the offense, a second strike notice may be sent to the homeroom teacher.
4th time- A third check will be placed by the student’s name on the board, and the student will be sent to the principal.
Please note…
· A strike notice will be sent to the homeroom teacher after the 2nd time the student chooses to break a rule. The first time is a warning only.
· The discipline system starts over every day; therefore, each student starts with a clean record every time he comes to music class.
EXCEPTIONS
Some behaviors, including being disrespectful to the teacher or posing a safety threat to oneself or others, will not follow this plan but will result in an immediate conference with the teacher or principal, isolation in class, or removal from music class.
