About Our Library
Policies and Practices

The library is designed for circulation of books and other media; using print and online research sources; studying; word-processing; and other educational applications. Computer or Internet games, instant messaging, e-mail, social sites, blogging and other similar activities are prohibited unless under the instruction of a faculty member. There is no charge to print from PCs in the library’s computer lab, however students should limit their printing to only the needed information. A student copier is available (.10 per sheet) and a School Store where many items necessary for completing assignments may be purchased (pencils, pens, paper, poster board, markers, etc.)

A school-issued photo ID card is required for students checking out library materials. All students are issued their first ID card at the beginning of each year at no charge. Replacement ID cards are $3 each. Books will be checked out for approximately two weeks, but may be returned at any time before the due date. For convenience, there is a library drop-off box located near the main hallway intersection in both ‘A’ and ‘B’ building. Should patrons need to keep materials for an extended amount of time, the items should be brought back to the library for re-checking. A limit of two books per student is the standard, but with teacher or librarian approval, an additional number may be allowed as needed for specific assignments. Reference materials, including magazines, may not be checked out by students nor taken from the library without consent of the librarian. Circulation of these materials is limited to 1 day only.

Students will visit the library approximately every two weeks with their Language Arts class. They also have access to the media center before and after school, during lunches, or from another class, providing they have a signed note from their teacher mentioning them by name and the purpose of their visit.

Regular library hours are from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each school day. Fines of five cents per day, per item, will be charged on overdue library materials. This includes weekends and holidays, since students have several opportunities to return books daily. Students having overdue items or owing fines will not be able to check out additional materials until their library records are cleared. Students are informed of their obligations regularly, and parents may be notified if fines are not taken care of promptly. In addition, report cards or student records may be held in the school office until debts are resolved. Lost or damaged materials shall be paid for at replacement cost plus any fines that may have accrued. If a lost book is found and returned in good condition, all but the fine money will be refunded.

While in the library, students are expected to behave in a quiet, orderly manner. No food, candy, gum, or drinks (other than water) will be permitted. Access to the library is a privilege, not a right. If students cannot control themselves, they will be asked to leave. Further disturbances will follow steps outlined in the school’s discipline policy. The principal’s office will be notified regarding severe or repeat disruptions and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
