CHOIR CONTEST & FUND RAISERS |
Choir students who are selling t-shirts to earn money for their spring trips may turn their forms and money in at any time between now and November 11. All forms must be turned in by that day.
The Beginner Choir classes (3rd, 4th, and 5th periods) will compete in the Texas A&M-Commerce Splash Day festival on Friday, May 11. Following the contest performance in the TAMU-Commerce music hall, the students will spend the day in the TAMU-Commerce recreation center (swimming, rock climbing, sports, etc). The cost for this trip will be approximately $30 per student (we have not received complete information from the contest yet). More details on the trip as well as chaperone needs will be sent to you at a later date. |

What is Beginner Choir?
Beginner Choir is made up of 6th grade choir students, this group focuses on learning to read music as a singer using the solfege method ("do-re-mi"), developing vocal and listening skills, and exploring and performing music from various genres in concerts and competitions. Because of the large number of students who join choir in 6th grade, the beginners are divided into one class of boys (3rd period) and two classes of girls (4th & 5th periods).
Students MUST sign up for Beginner Choir at the BEGINNING of the school year. Joining late will put the student behind in learning vocal and music reading skills. |

Friday, August 26: Choir Info/Acknowledgement card due for "100." Minus 10 points for each day late. Earn 10 bonus points for turning in shirt money with your card.
Friday, August 26: Choir supplies due (3rd perio--pencil bag, 4th period--blue pens, 5th period--black thin dry erase markers)
Friday, September 9: $10 choir t-shirt fee due
October 20: Choir t-shirts will be passed out in class
October 21: Choir group pictures during school...wear jeans with new choir shirt to school.
December 5?: Tentative date. Morning concert at Parker...one Beginner Choir class will be chosen to perform.
Tuesday, December 6: Morning concert at Bailey (9:00am)--wear jeans and choir shirt to school.
Tuesday, December 6: Winter Concert, wear jeans and choir shirt. THIS CONCERT IS YOUR FINAL EXAM GRADE. East Paris Baptist Church. Time TBA. Students must stay for entire concert...including performances by HS choirs.
January 2-6: Choir fundraiser (to raise money for your spring contest trip).
May?: Morning concert at Parker...one Beginner Choir class will be chosen to perform.
May 2: Morning concert at Bailey (all Beginner Choir students)
Friday, May 11 : Choir Contest. All day event. Wear jeans and choir t-shirt. Must be academically eligible to attend.
Friday, May 11: Spring concert immediately upon return from contest trip. ALL Beginner Choir students must perform, including those who were unable to attend the contest trip on the same day. |
