Parenting Workshop Schedule
Tuesday, January 17, 2012  9:00-11:00 A.M. at North Lamar High School
Topic- Scholarship Information & Succeeding in School

We had a very small attendance for the parenting workshop.  We went over an abundance of important information.  I have lots of information in my office, if you are interested, please send me an email to nmoss@northlamar.net, I will scan it and send it to you.
Title 1 School Wide Program
A Title 1 schoolwide program provides opportunities for all students in the school to meet Texas' high performance standards.  All North Lamar ISD elementary, intermediate, and middle schools are serving students through Title 1 schoolwide programs designed to benefit all children in the schools.
Parenting Program Options with Descriptions
Love and Logic is a philosophy of raising and teaching children which allows adults to be happier, empowered, and more skilled in the interactions with children. Love allows children to grow through their mistakes. Logic allows children to live with the consequences of their choices. Love and Logic is a way of working with children that puts parents and teachers back in control, teaches children to be responsible, and prepares young people to live in the real world, with its many choices and consequences.
Active Parenting is a program where you will learn skills that will help you develop cooperation, responsibility and self-esteem in your children. You'll also learn positive discipline techniques so you can avoid those all-too-familiar power struggles.
1-2-3 Magic: Are you frustrated trying to find an effective and positive way to discipline your children? Most parents want their kids to listen and they want to enjoy their family life. That's why ParentMagic offers parenting solutions that are easy-to-learn and that WORK!
SOS Help For Parents is a book and a parent education program which helps children, ages two to twelve, to improve their behavior and emotional adjustment. The SOS book teaches over 20 basic methods and techniques for helping children. The best methods for handling over 46 different behavior problems are taught.
We could also do some short sessions on:
The Birth Order Effect: How does your birth order affect you and your loved ones?
Cyber-bullying and how to keep your children safe online: Guidelines and tips for keeping your children safe online.
How to Help Your Child Succeed at School: Tips on promoting success at school.
How Title 1 Works

  • The federal government provides funding each year to the state. The Texas Education Agency sends money to local school districts based on the number of low-income families in the district.

  • The local school district identifies eligible schools and provides Title 1 resouces based on the percentage of children from low-income families.

  • One goal of Title 1 is to involve parents in all aspects of the progam including goal setting, planning, evaluation, volunteer opportunities and tips for working with children at home.

Why is the schoolwide program important?

Children...

do better in school and feel better about themselves.

Parents...

understand their children better and can have more to say about their children's education.

Teachers...

benefit from the suggestions and support that parents offer and from the satisfaction of seeing children succeed.
